Aussie shares jumped higher today following a collective rally on overseas markets on Friday night.
Most sectors finished in positive territory, with health care and utilities being the only exceptions.
The big four helped the market finish higher; Westpac and NAB were the best of the four, climbing 1.2% and 1.8% respectively.
Mining majors outperformed the general market, buoyed by stronger commodity prices; BHP gained 1.6%, Rio Tinto advanced 2.6% and smaller rival Fortescue soared 5.7%.
The ASX 200 added 45 points (+1.1%), to close at 4296.
