Welcome to MarketPulse, the Australian Stock Report's financial market blog. In the MarketPulse blog we aim to provide frequent updates on current events across the financial markets, including market wraps, articles in the news, opinions, reviews, financial education and finally our top tip of the week. The blog is published by the Australian Stock Report research and report editing team together with our very own "Passionate Trader", Carl Capolingua.

International markets were mixed on Friday night with investors around the globe continuing to be waylaid by fears regarding the eurozone and Washington debt issues.

In Europe the FTSE shed 60 points (-1.1%) to settle at 5363, whilst the CAC (-0.4%) and DAX (-0.9%) also lost ground.

Stateside, the Dow Jones added 25 points (+0.2%) to settle at 11796, whilst the S&P 500 was flat and the Nasdaq shed 0.6%.

The euro strengthened for the first time in a week against the greenback and yen amid speculation ECB buying of Spanish and Italian bonds will stem borrowing costs.

The Canadian dollar also rallied, for the first time in five sessions, after government reports showed consumer prices rose in October.

Like equities, commodities also put in a mixed performance with copper (+0.6%) and gold (+0.3%) stronger, whilst crude pulled back 1.3%.

There is no major local data due out for today's session.
