Welcome to MarketPulse, the Australian Stock Report's financial market blog. In the MarketPulse blog we aim to provide frequent updates on current events across the financial markets, including market wraps, articles in the news, opinions, reviews, financial education and finally our top tip of the week. The blog is published by the Australian Stock Report research and report editing team together with our very own "Passionate Trader", Carl Capolingua.

The Aussie market rallied for a fifth consecutive session today, following on from last night's huge rally on Wall Street.

Another big rise in commodity prices buoyed the local miners; BHP added 0.8% and Rio Tinto climbed 0.9%.

The big four also added to their recent gains; CBA closed up 1.2% and Westpac rose 1%.

Nexus led the advance among energy stocks (+17.2%), whilst Santos put on 2.7% amid recovering oil prices.

Woolworths edged lower by 0.9% after naming Grant O'Brien as its new CEO.

The ASX 200 advanced 27 points (+0.6%), settling at 4228.
